How My Marketing Background Led Me to Wedding Content Creation

If we were talking a year ago, and you had told me that a year from now I’d be spending my weekends filming first looks and ugly crying during father-daughter dances with a phone in hand for wedding content creation, and getting paid for it, I probably would’ve laughed. But… here we are.

Before starting Unveiled Media Co., I spent over six years working in marketing. Most of that was with a privately owned business with 18 locations across Wisconsin and Illinois. It was a steady job. I loved that job. I did it all: social media, content creation, photography, videography, graphic design. And I loved it. But somewhere along the way, I started feeling a pull, whispers of “what if you did something else?”

I Forgot How Much I Loved This

Before my career in marketing, I actually worked as a wedding planner in college with a local planning company. It wasn’t until after planning my own wedding that something clicked. It reminded me why I loved this industry in the first place and confirmed my suspicion that I needed a change. The joy, the energy, the people, the chaos—it all felt comforting, like home.

While debating what my next job or career could look like, I kept wondering what it would be like to leave my “normal” job. Then that decision was made for me. I was laid off. It was scary and unexpected, but also the push I didn’t know I needed.

I Didn’t Just Switch Careers, I Came Back to Myself

After taking a few weeks post-layoff, I started to think about what I really wanted to do next. The more I thought and talked it out with myself, the more I realized it was already right in front of me.

Wedding content creation felt like the perfect blend of my skillset—capturing real moments, telling visual stories, thinking ahead without over-directing. But this time, it wasn’t for brands. It was for people. For once-in-a-lifetime events that actually mean something.

Still not quite sure what a wedding content creator does? This post breaks it down.

The Moments That Matter

I can’t even begin to describe how much I love being a wedding content creator. But one of the biggest joys is catching the in-between moments. Your friends cracking up at the head table. Your mom fixing your veil. You wiping a tear when you think no one’s looking (or recording). It’s the real stuff, and it’s so easy to miss in the whirlwind of the day.

I’m a people person to my core, so I don’t just love connecting with my couples—I bond with their families, their bridal parties, and yes, even their drunk uncles. I get to become part of the day without getting in the way. And honestly, that connection makes the footage even better.

It’s Not Always Glamorous, But It’s Worth It

If I’m being honest, I work way more now than I ever did in my “normal” 9 to 5. Like, way more. But it doesn’t feel like work. (I know, I know—that’s cheesy. But it’s true.)

There’s something so special about showing up for people on one of the most important days of their lives, capturing the moments they didn’t even know they’d want to remember. And getting to do that through wedding content creation? It just makes sense.

Ready to Capture Your Day?

Have you been thinking about hiring a wedding content creator in Wisconsin (or anywhere, really)? I work with couples across the Midwest to create real-time, candid content that helps you relive every laugh, happy tear, and little moment in between. I’d love to chat about how I could be part of your day!
